Digital media 

is a form of electronic media where data are stored in digital (as opposed to analog) form. It can refer to the technical aspect of storage and transmission (e.g. hard disk drives or computer networking) of information or to the "end product", such as digital video, augmented reality, digital signage, digital audio, or digital art .

Florida's digital media industry association, Digital Media Alliance Florida, defines digital media as "the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology and business for human expression, communication, social interaction and education".

There is a rich history of non-binary digital media, computers, and their rise to prominence over the last couple decades.

Digital art 
is any art in which computers played a role in production or display of the artwork. Such art can be an image, sound, animation, video, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, videogame, web site, algorithm, performance or gallery installation. Many traditional disciplines are now integrating digital technologies and, as a result, the lines between traditional works of art and new media works created using computers has been blurred. For instance, an artist may combine traditional painting with algorithm art and other digital techniques. Often, the medium itself is considered the artwork. As a result, defining computer art by its end product can thus be difficult. Nevertheless, this type of art is beginning to appear in art museum exhibits.

Comic book artists in the past would generally sketch a drawing in pencil before going over the drawing again with India ink, using pens and brushes. Magazine illustrators often worked with India ink, acrylics or oils. Currently, an increasing number of artists are now creating digital artwork.

Digital artists do, simply, what centuries of artists have always done by exploring and adopting a culture's new technology toward the making of a personal imagery. In doing so the culture is also reflected in the artwork as is the artist's personal vision. As our culture becomes increasingly digitized, digital artists are leading the way in exploring and defining this new culture. Digital Artists use a medium that is nearly immaterial, that being binary information which describes the color and brightness of the individual pixels of the picture. All art that is made is stored on the computer's hard drive. Digital artists employ many types of user interfaces that correspond to the wide variety of brushes, lenses or other tools that traditional artist use to shape their materials. Rather than manipulating digital code directly as math, these electronic brushes and tools allow an artist to translate hand motions, cutting and pasting, and what were formerly chemical dark room techniques into the mathematical changes that effect the arrangement of screen pixels and create a picture.

Digital art is created and stored in a non-material form on the computer's memory systems and must be made physical, usually in the form of prints on paper or some other form of printmaking substrate. In addition, digital art may be exchanged and appreciated directly on acomputer screen in gallery situations or simultaneously in every place on the globe with access to the web. Being immaterial has its advantages and with the advent of high quality digital printing techniques a very traditional long lasting print of this artwork can also be produced and marketed.

Technology in my specialism area (Graphic Design)

Positive: There is no doubt that the impact of science and technology in the graphic

design is essential.For example, according to the development of photography, we

can pass through the image for more information.According to the progress of

computer technology, graphic design is becoming more common, and

efficiency.According to the development of multimedia, we can choose the more

medium to transmit information. Specific to the font design, design the font with

computer is more quickly and accurately.

Negative: The development of science and technology so that people neglected

handmade's beauty gradually.The people can not slow down and feel the beauty of

life, design sometimes becomes anxious thing. People all use the same technology

to creation, design becomes monotonous and boring.

Week 1 Lecture

Well, let me start with rice cooker! ! !

This is my rice cooker, as you can see, there are many function (red word) I can choose!

There are three different options for cook rice.I also can use it to make porridge, soup, yogurt, cake and so on. But how it effect my life ? 

I bought a normal cooker (just 2 function: rice and soup)in Singapore last year as the first image, I just bought it fo inexpensive! But it too cheap and low-tech! It is cook rice  too hard or too soft.Let me no mood to cook. And after about four mouths, it was broken. Then I found that the rice cooker is very expensive in Singapore. So, I bring the new one from my country！

After I used it, I have mood to cook and I often invite my friends to come my home and teste my cooking. And I have improved my cooking skill! As you can see, a good high-tech products will make you love cooking, singing and  communicate with people, and so on.It change your mood, change your lifestyle.

About 3 years ago, I went to Hongkong to visit HK International Art Fair. And I saw a special works that I can not forget.

 I can not remember the artist and the name of this work, but I really inspire by this work. It told me a good creative art work that can communicate with audiences. Everyone who saw this work are very attractive by the work in detail to the whole work.

Some careful observation of the little man in the works, some standing up works above. The success of this work have communication and interaction with the audience.

In my specialism area ---graphic design, communicating and interacting with the audience is very important. Good graphic design work should try to pass information to convey to the audience, to seize the audience's psychological. That is what I try to do in my graphic works.
